Hidari Zingaro is pleased to announce “VISUALSTATEMENT -OF A GRAFFITI WRITER LIVING THIS TOWN.BY K6-,” a solo exhibition by K6 opening on Saturday, April 21st.

K6 is a graffiti writer who was born in Tokyo, and has worked under several different tag names.
The artist who started bombing streets at the age of 15 has been widely known for his sharp and futuristic work that are finely finished with his unparalleled writing ability,
and for the vast network with his fellow artists not only from Tokyo, but also from cities all over the world. For his first ever solo show, K6 projects onto his work a unique narrative made up of his personal experiences throughout his career that was launched in early 2000s.
The harsh life heʼs lived with his friends belonging to Tokyoʼs underground society form the core of his creativity.
We look forward to welcoming you to the world of K6 which is filled with colors that are exquisitely brilliant as if to destroy the pain. We also hope you to enjoy the unique crossover of a variety of mediums ranging from drawing, print, and collage to photography.

K6

K6 is a graffiti writer who was born, raised and lives in Tokyo. Influenced by the local street art he grew up seeing and media coverages/reporting of graffiti, he naturally began bombing himself at the age of 15 in early 2000s. K6 is the second “real name” of the man who’s never stopped writing since then.
As a young creator, he was surrounded by the nonconformist demographics of the society consisting of artists, graffiti writers, skateboarders, DJs, rappers, dancers, hustlers, bikers, and gangs. He went through an abundance of joy and sorrow in that particular environment and that helped him become matured and grown-up.
His point of view and sensibilities were formed by all those influences he got from his hometown and the people with whom he spent his time together.
The artist still keeps exploring the potential of his graffiti under several different tag names.
Yet, what K6 creates is not a simple tagging or lettering. His work, which is imbued with his peculiar point of view and aesthetics as well as his personal experiences, is a crossover of a variety of mediums ranging from drawing, print, collage to photography.
The exquisitely brilliant colors are inside-out renderings of his pain and anguish, and the hard-edged, sophisticated black/chrome images are representations of his beliefs and aspirations he keeps deep down in his heart.
